Reading Time: < 1 minute

Three large districts in the Northern Cape have been identified as ideal for development of the biodiversity economy. The Namakwa district around Springbok, ZF Mgcawu district around Upington and John Taolo Gaetsewe district around Kuruman will receive support from the Department of Environmental Affairs.

Provincial MEC for environment and nature conservation Pauline Williams says jobs will be created by the initiative, which includes hunting, biodiversity prospecting and eco-tourism. “The Northern Cape is the third most preferred hunting destination by international hunters. This gives us an opportunity to develop our communities and improve livelihoods through our rich biodiversity”
