A motion of no confidence in Cape Town Mayor Patricia de Lille has failed.

Earlier on Thursday, De Lille walked out of a special sitting of the City council where the motion of no confidence against her was being heard.

The City of Cape Town’s Speaker, Dirk Smit, ruled that a secret ballot during the vote of no confidence was not necessary.

The motion follows allegations of maladministration and corruption against her.

The majority of councillors (110) voted against the motion, 109 for the motion, and there were 3 abstentions.
