More than 200 000 vaccines administered in last 24 hours, 924 new COVID-19 cases reported

The Health Ministry says more than 212 000 coronavirus vaccines were administered in the last 24 hour reporting period as another Vooma Vaccination weekend rolls around. 73% of the vaccines administered were Pfizer jabs.
Government recently said it was hoping to vaccinate another 14 million people by December to achieve a 70%t vaccination rate in the country and roll back the spread of the virus.

The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) says 132 people have died from COVID 19 in the latest 24 hour reporting period, taking the death toll to 88 236.

South Africa has recorded 924 new COVID-19 cases, which brings the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases to 2 910 681.

The NICD says the coronavirus test positivity rate remains at around 2.8% which is well below the rate at which the spread of the virus is considered to be under control and is good news for the country at this stage.

The Western Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, and Gauteng account for almost half of the 924 new infections.
