Mnangagwa gives Mugabe an ultimatum

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Zimbabwe’s sacked Vice-President, Emmerson Mnangagwa, says he’s given President Robert Mugabe an ultimatum.

In a statement, Mnangagwa says he’s told Mugabe that he can co-operate with the armed forces and negotiate his resignation or he can be humiliated by a forced removal from office.

Mnangawa’s dismissal by Mugabe earlier this month apparently triggered the military takeover.

He says in his conversation with President Mugabe he reminded him that he has always said he will rule the country as per the will of the people.

The former right hand man says Mugabe, but heed the call by the nation for him to leave office so his legacy can be preserved.

Mnangagwa says he explained to Mugabe that his defiance may lead to humiliation when he is forcibly removed.

The former Vice President declined the invite to State House to meet with Mugabe in person, saying he doesn’t feel safe and would require guaranteed protection before he returns to Zimbabwe.
