Mauritius has temporarily suspended entry for Italian and Korean travellers as countries adopt precautions to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

This is to ensure that the Indian Ocean Island remains a safe destination for travellers.

In a statement the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority says that NO cases of the coronavirus have been recorded in the country.

Any visitor, who has visited China in the past 14 days, is placed in quarantine on arrival.

On Monday, Mauritius authorities held Italian passengers aboard an Alitalia flight arriving from Rome, saying all travellers coming from the worst-affected areas in Italy must be placed under quarantine or return home.

Travellers from Singapore and Japan will be screened and closely monitored upon arrival in Mauritius.
