A 57-year-old man accused of interfering with a motorcade convoy escorting a foreign VIP dignitary to the Lanseria Airport yesterday morning is expected to appear before the Krugersdorp Magistrate’s Court this morning.

The man was arrested after he attempted to disrupt the motorcade on three occasions before the police pulled him over.

Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe says the public must respect vehicles displaying blue lights.

“According to the National Road Traffic Act, vehicles displaying a blue light, have absolute right of way when it is safe to do so and motorists are urged to give way for them.”

She adds: “Members of the public are reminded that blue lights may only be fitted on vehicles operated by members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) and Municipal Police Services, Traffic officers and Members of the SANDF Military Police.”
