Kodwa praises Tyla for winning Grammy Award

Sports, Arts and Culture Minister Zizi Kodwa has congratulated singer and songwriter, Tyla, for winning her first Grammy Award.

The musician became the inaugural winner of the Best African Music Performance category for her hit song, Water.

South Africa had a notable presence at the Grammys, with Trevor Noah hosting the awards for a fourth time.

Noah received a nomination for “Best Comedy Album”, while Acapella group Just Six was nominated in the “Best Arrangement, Instrumental or Acapella” category and Musa Keys was nominated for “Best African Performance” for his collaboration with Nigerian artist, Davido.

The Department’s spokesperson, Litha Mpondwana says, “Minister Kodwa says that Tyla’s Grammy Award win once again confirms her status as a music global superstar. Her meteoric success has been truly inspiring, and there is so much more to come.”

Mpondwana says, “The Minister adds that Tyla is a proud ambassador of South African arts and culture and congratulates her historic Grammy Award win, which comes before she has even released a full album. The Minister also congratulates all the South African artists who were nominated for the 66th Annual Grammy Award. Trevor Noah, Just Six and Musa Keys show the diverse South African artistic talent on display on the world stage.”
