Gauteng police have arrested a 40-year-old man who allegedly killed two children aged five and eleven years old, in Boipatong, Sedibeng District yesterday.

Masondo says when police arrived, they found two children strangled to death.

“Police rushed to the scene where they found that two of the boys had passed on while the third was rushed to hospital for medical treatment. The suspect, who has been on the run since the incident was traced and arrested by the police a day later in Johannesburg on Wednesday 19 January 2022. The suspect will be charged with two counts of murder and two of attempted murder. He is expected to appear at Vanderbijlpark Magistrate’s Court on Friday.”

In another case, police are investigating the possibility that rivalry between cable theft gangs led to the murder of five people in Eldorado Park, Johannesburg.

Their bodies were discovered by a passerby this morning. Police noted the bodies were found alongside a dugout where the cables had been stripped. The identities of the victims are not yet known. Police spokesperson Dimakatso Sello is appealing for information from the public.
