Transport MEC conveys condolences to families of 14 people killed Free State crash

Free State MEC for Police, Roads and Transport William Bulwane has conveyed his condolences to the families of the 14 people who were killed in a crash on R57 in the Free State on Saturday.

Bulwane has also wished the three injured people who were taken to hospital a speedy recovery. Two minibus taxis collided head on the road between Reitz and Petrus Steyn in the early hours of Saturday morning. Thirteen people died on the scene.

Another person died in hospital. Bulwane has urged road users to be extra vigilant over the festive season and take responsibility.

 

 

Meanwhile, Free State police say a case of culpable homicide is being in1vestigated.

On Saturday, Police Spokesperson, Motantsi Makhele the two vehicles were travelling between Gauteng province and the Free State province.

“The white VW crafter with FS (Free State Province ) registration was on its way to Gauteng province from Ficksburg, [it] had a male driver who died instantly on the scene. The second white vehicle was a Toyota Quantam with a GP (Gauteng Province) registration which was from Pretoria to Fouriesburg, carried 11 passengers and [the] driver also dies instantly on scene, Other four passengers were taken to Dihlabeng and Nketoana hospitals for medical treatment for sustaining serious injuries,” says Makhele.
