Electricity Minister, Dr. Kgosientsho Ramokgopa has insisted that the end of load shedding is indeed in sight.

He was speaking on Wednesday during the debate on President Cyril Ramaphosa’s State of the Nation Address (SONA).

Ramokgopa’s statement comes despite the country having been plunged into Stage 6 load shedding at the weekend, days after Ramaphosa made the same claim during his SONA.

However, Ramokgopa insists that the grid is being strengthened through various interventions.

He says, “Medupi 4 returns to service in September, a year ahead. Unit 6 which will be synchronised in late November 2024 will add 1600mw to grid. In addition unit 2 of Koeberg will return to service in September 2024, these will add 2500mW to grid in 2024. The end of load shedding is indeed in sight.”
