The Sunshine Tour has added two more events to their schedule that will be co-sanctioned by the DP World Tour, formerly known as the European Tour. The Pecanwood Classic and the Steyn City Championship will take place in March next year, giving South Africa’s up and coming golfers more of a chance to compete on the global stage.

The DP World Tour’s 2021/22 season kicks off on South African shores with three major tournaments, starting this week with the Joburg Open at the Randpark Golf Club. But more importantly, for the young professionals looking to make their mark – the Sunshine Tour has added two more events to their calendar.

The Pecanwood Classic at the Pecanwood Golf Estate located on the banks of the Hartbeespoort Dam in the North West and the Steyn City Championship, at the Club Steyn City in Midrand will be played on Jack Nicklaus signature courses.

“Very exciting times it’s all part of our new strategic partnership with the European tour now the DP world tour to give our players the opportunity to perform on the global pathway, it’s a fabulous time to be a professional golfer in SA are going to launce our new schedule in a few weeks’ time with all these tournaments and some challenge tour events as well so it’s a bumper upcoming season for the sunshine tour,” says Thomas Abt, Commissioner of the Sunshine Tour.

Big-hitting James Hart Du Preez who’s chasing his maiden title on the Tour, will also be teeing it up this week. He is no doubt delighted by the addition of the two new tournaments which will afford him more opportunities to compete with the world’s best and hopefully one day help him to secure his card to play on the illustrious PGA Tour.

“it’s far more competitive this year on the tour in terms of prize money and elite status of events, you got a lot more guys from the states, global players like your Morikawas and your Jon Rahms yeah it was a…it surprise for us those two events I believe that it was changed from the challenger tour to the main tour events, it’s going to be, we have a really stacked schedule from now until may next year phenominal,” James Hart Du Preez, SA golfer.

A limited number of two thousand fully vaccinated spectators will be able to attend the Joburg Open – with play starting on Thursday morning at 6:30.
