The University of Cape Town’s Underwater Club-24, in collaboration with the Two Oceans Aquarium, have embarked on a fundraising drive by having their divers remain underwater for 24 hours.

The funds raised will go towards the rehabilitation of marine wildlife causes. It will benefit organisations such as the Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds (SANCCOB) and the Two Oceans Aquarium Education Foundation.

Divers went into the water yesterday. The Two Oceans Aquarium’s spokesperson, Renée Leeuwner, “We have an NPO/PBO partner called the Two Oceans Aquarium Education Foundation and the foundation is specifically mandated to look at conservation research and education. Any funds that are raised through initiatives like Diver24 goes towards the foundation and they use it for turtle rehabilitation, for getting children visit the aquarium who cannot afford it and for research.”
