Disgruntled Tembisa residents take to the streets over power cuts

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Disgruntled residents from Tembisa, east of Johannesburg, have embarked on a protest after electricity was cut-off to many houses in the area.

This morning residents blocked off several streets in the area as they marched to the Winnie Mandela Customer Care Centre to protest.

They are demanding the immediate reconnection of electricity to the houses that were cut off.

Tembisa Community Forum spokesperson Xolani Mnisi says, “There is a protest taking place currently. The protest is being organised by the Tembisa residents. The reason why there is a protest is that from last week, many households around Tembisa were cut off their access to electricity by the Ekurhuleni Municipality without any notice and that is what has agitated the people to march and go protest at the Winnie Mandela Customer Care Centre.”
