A spokesperson for Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu says the retired clergyman is not taking the news of former UN secretary General and Nobel Peace Prize winner, Kofi Annan‘s death well.
The Desmond and Leah Tutu Foundation says Annan was an outstanding human being.
In a statement, Tutu says Annan represented Africa and the world with enormous graciousness, integrity and distinction.
He says it was a tremendous honour and privilege to have Annan serve as a member of The Elders during Tutu’s period as chairperson.
Tutu says members of The Elders formed a special bond. “His death is unexpected and devastating.”
The Tutu’s have extended their condolences to Anna’s family.
Annan passed away in Switzerland after a short illness. He was 80.

Tutu’s spokesperson Benny Gool says he is very distraught by the news of Annan’s passing.
