The Department of Defence and Military Veterans has spent more than R100 million on lease payments for unoccupied office buildings from 2015 up to 2020.

This is according to the Auditor-General (AG)’s audited statement which has been tabled in Parliament as part of the Joint Standing Committee on Intelligence’s Report.

The report includes other entities in the security cluster such as the State Security Agency and the Police’s Crime Intelligence.

According to the Auditor-General, some of the irregularities identified during the auditing periods include the department’s non-compliance with the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA).
