Manufacturing production increased by 2,6% in January

South Africa’s manufacturing sector showed significant improvement in January compared to January 2023.

Data from Stats SA shows that manufacturing production increased by 2.6%.

The largest positive contributions came from the petroleum, wood, textiles and glass sectors.

Seasonally adjusted manufacturing production increased by 0.2 % in the three months ended January compared with the previous three months.

Seven of the ten manufacturing divisions reported positive growth rates over this period. The largest positive contribution was made by the food and beverages division.

The largest negative contribution was made by the basic iron and steel, non-ferrous metal products, metal products and machinery division.
