The Democratic Alliance in the Western Cape has re-elected the Western Cape Minister for Infrastructure, Tertius Simmers, as interim leader of the party in the province.

City of Cape Town Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, JP Smith, has been elected interim deputy provincial leader.

They were elected at the party’s Elective Provincial Council meeting on Thursday.

DA Provincial Chairperson, Jaco Londt, says the new leadership will lead the party to the 2024 elections.

“At today’s provincial council, the DA in the Western Cape elected a new interim provincial leader and a deputy leader. Tertuis Simmers and JP Smith will now lead the province up towards the 2024 elections where we need to ensure we retain the Western Cape and contribute our share of the vote to bring the ANC below 50 percent.”
