Court to hear Zuma’s medical parole case

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The High Court in Pretoria will on Tuesday morning hear the case that the Democratic Alliance (DA), lobby group Afriforum and the Helen Suzman Foundation have brought to challenge the granting of former Persident Jacob Zuma medical parole.

They want the parole reviewed and set aside.

Zuma was granted medical parole in September for his 15-year-month contempt sentence.

The Helen Suzman Foundation is seeking a record of and reasons for granting Zuma medical parole.

The foundation believes the decision to release Zuma on parole is not a legal one.

It wants the court to compel the commissioner to answer. It also wants the court to review and set aside Correctional Services Commissioner Arthur Fraser as well as an order to substitute the decision refusing Zuma’s application for medical parole.

The DA seeks an order directing that Zuma be returned to prison to serve the remainder of his sentence
