The National Institute of Communicable Diseases has reported six more coronavirus-related fatalities. This brings the total number of fatalities to 100 020 to date.
“There may be a backlog of COVID-19 mortality cases reported. Today, the NDoH reports 44 deaths and of these, six occurred in the past 24 – 48 hours,” says the institute in a statement.
The institute has also reported 1 679 new COVID-19 cases, which brings the total number of laboratory-confirmed infections to 3 717 067.
This increase represents a 6.4% positivity rate. The majority of new cases today are from Gauteng (41%), followed by Western Cape (22%).
23 809 344 tests have been conducted in both the public and private sectors.
