Proteas fast bowler Dale Steyn is still battling with a shoulder injury.

A major gamble by the South African cricket selectors, has come back to bite them. Fast bowler Dale Steyn has been ruled out of Thursday’s opening match of the ICC Cricket World Cup against England at the Oval in London.

He has not recovered since returning for the Indian Premier League with a shoulder injury. The 35 year-old will probably miss the Proteas’ second match on June the second against Bangladesh at the same venue, as well.

Proteas coach, Ottis Gibson, said in London this afternoon, they hope that Steyn would be 100 percent fit to take on India at the Rose Bowl in Southampton on the fifth of next month.
