Bloemfontein Celtic supporters have taken their fight to the streets in a bid to rescue the cash-strapped club.

They have embarked on a protest march, demanding a financial bail-out from the Free State government. Celtic have been in dire financial straits which prompted the decision to put the club on sale.

Bloemfontein streets were blanketed in green and white as supporters took to the street to demand government intervention. They also want government to facilitate the sale of the club.

Supporters also want  South African Revenue Services (Sars ) to conduct the club’s financial due diligence. Celtic is reportedly mired in debt of more than R60 million and have to contend with a liquidation lawsuit. The Free State government has pledged R2.5 million to Celtic coffers.

The initial sale negotiations between businesswoman, Sinki Leshabane, and her associate, Moeketsi Mosola, have collapsed. The current negotiations are veiled in secrecy.

The Free State government has established a task team to mediate on the Celtic impasse.
