A prayer by some senior members of the Buthelezi clan is expected to be held on Thursday at the Buthelezi Tribal court, KwaNondayana – in Mahlabathini outside Ulundi in northern KwaZulu-Natal.

The 94-year-old Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) President Emeritus Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi remains in hospital.

Messages wishing the elder stateman a speedy recovery have been pouring in since the news of his hospitalisation.

Buthelezi clan Regent Mpikayise Buthelezi explains: “We are holding a prayer today. Senior members of the Buthelezi clan as well as Buthelezi traditional leaders forming the Buthelezi Traditional Council.”

“We are asking God and our ancestors to intervene that Inkosi Mangosuthu Buthelezi gets better in hospital. So [that he] can come back to his clan and continue with his duties serving the Zulu nation in his capacity as Zulu Traditional Prime Minister. We believe our prayers will be heard,” adds Mpikayise Buthelezi.

On Wednesday, President Cyril Ramaphosa wished Prince Buthelezi a speedy recovery.

His family says the Prince was readmitted to hospital for back pain treatment, and then developed complications.
