City of Johannesburg Mayor Jolidee Matongo killed in a car crash:
Meanwhile, Soweto residents have urged ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa to urgently restore electricity in some parts of the township. The president was leading the governing party’s campaign trail in the areas.
At the Nomzamo informal settlement, residents have been without electricity for over two years while in areas like Chiawelo and Naledi some residents have been in the dark for over two months. They say power outage in the township is also compounded by blown up substations and cable theft.
Ramaphosa says it was worth it to hear people’s frustrations and promised Eskom will soon address the problem.
