Jolidee Matongo has been elected as the new mayor of Johannesburg. Matongo was nominated and elected on Tuesday morning.
Matongo was nominated by the African National Congress (ANC). He previously served on the mayoral committee for finance.

The mayor position became vacant after the death of former Mayor Geoff Makhubo. Makhubo succumbed to a Covid-19 related illness at age 53. He previously served on the mayoral committee for finance.
