Bantwana’s preparations for the FIFA under-17 Women’s World Cup tournament have been hit by a number of injuries. Midfielder Oratile Mokwena and forward Miche Minnes are recovering after receiving knocks in the friendly against Uruguay on Wednesday.

Defender Yenzokuhle Ngubane, who also got a knock in the match that Bantwana lost three-nil in Montevideo, has recovered and is said to be fit for the tournament opener.

They will face Mexico in Uruguay Tuesday evening. Bantwana are playing in their second World Cup event, having also qualified for the 2010 edition in Trinidad and Tobago.

Coach, Simphiwe Dludlu, says her players should just enjoy the experience.

“We are really excited to be here. The last time we were here was eight years ago. In 2010, we didn’t do so well. We are a developing country in terms of women’s football, the brand is growing. Being here representing Africa and South Africa, is a big achievement for us. We just want the girls to understand that they have to do their best and enjoy.”

Dludlu, says this tournament will be a learning curve for her and the players.

“Our main aim is to make sure we play good football and give our best. We will play experienced teams. It’s all about learning as well. As the youngest coach in the tournament, I’m looking to learn and become better and take the band of good football back to South Africa.”
