The University of the Western Cape (UWC) says its COVID-19 Vaccination Centre will officially be launched tomorrow. Acting Rector, Professor Vivienne Lawack, says the service is currently only available to staff and students over the age of 60.

Lawack says it’s also available to staff members’ spouses and parents who are over the age of 60.

UWC is the second university in the province to set up a fully operational vaccination site after the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT).

In early June, CPUT became the first institution of higher learning in the country to open up a dedicated COVID-19 vaccination centre for its staff and students.

Staff members from the faculty of health and wellness sciences, campus health clinics and the HIV/Aids unit were trained to administer the vaccines.

The UWC Vaccination Centre will be open from 9am to 3:30pm from Tuesdays to Fridays.

South Africa is currently facing a third-wave of COVID-19 infections:
