The African Independent Congress (AIC) launched its manifesto in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape, on Saturday.

Their manifesto “A people’s charter for inclusive development” aims to underline the party’s belief that it is a servant of the people and will take its mandate from the people.

A champion of the poor and a strong anti-corruption stance, that’s how the AIC portrayed its election strategy. The party also says it will tighten the belt on unnecessary government spending.

The formation of the party came during the battle to include Matatiele into KwaZulu-Natal rather than the Eastern Cape, but now the AIC is looking at the big picture; planning to do away with provinces in order to empower local governments.

AIC president Mandla Galo says that the party will focus on strengthening humanity in the country. AIC promised to get rid of the tender system and replace it with a public works programme.

Galo also slammed claims that the AIC is trying to mimic the ruling party and stealing votes from the ANC. The AIC identity bears the same colours as that of the ANC.

Galo says his party wants to reduce crime and increase community safety. He says the AIC plans on increasing police visibility to curb crime in schools and hospitals.

Galo also says his party wants to protect the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) from political interference.
