Reading Time: < 1 minute

Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc has taken pole position for his home grand prix.

LeClerc is the first Monaco-born resident, ever to race in Formula One.

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen will start on the front row with Leclerc with Mercedes driver Valterri Bottas in third.

Championship leader Mercede’s Lewis Hamilton will start seventh.

Leclerc’s teammate Carlos Sainz Jr will start fourth, giving the prancing horse Tifosi something to cheer after a dismal 2020 season.

Practice results

Verstappen was fastest in final practice for the showcase Monaco Grand Prix.

Verstappen, 14 points behind Hamilton after four races, lapped the tight metal-fenced street circuit with the best time of one minute 11.294 seconds and 0.047 ahead of Sainz.

Leclerc, fastest in Thursday’s practice for Ferrari, was third on the timesheets and 0.258 off the Dutch youngster’s pace.

Grid position is critical for Monaco, where overtaking is almost impossible.
