Director of the School of African and Oriental Studies at the University of London Professor Adam Habib has temporarily stepped aside from his position.

This is after Professor Habib, the former Vice-Chancellor of Wits University came under fire for using the “N” word during a virtual meeting with students last week.

The university says its board and Professor Habib have agreed that he will step aside while an investigation gets under way.

In the meantime, the day-to-day running of the university’s School of Oriental and African Studies will be handed to interim director, Professor Clair Ozanne.
