SABC committed to resolve Sentech impasse

SABC Group CEO Nomsa Chabeli says the public broadcaster is committed to ensure that the impasse it has with signal distributor Sentech is resolved.

Chabeli was speaking during a briefing in Parliament by the Communications and Digital Technologies Department and various entities including Sentech.

The SABC’s scheduled meeting to present its new corporate plan to the Portfolio Committee was postponed after the corporation sent a letter of apology.

The SABC has approached the Competitions Tribunal over the high tariffs by Sentech.

The SABC is currently paying Sentech R20 million a month and has outstanding bills to the entity.

Chabeli elaborates, “As SABC we have what we though are more of a comment regarding the impasse that has been reached by the SABC and Sentech. I think it was important for us, we need to reiterate that we continue to build our relationship with Sentech and that the way we understood the comment is that perhaps there could be other avenues that could be explored to help us arrive at a conclusion to the matter. However, as SABC we are committed to free solving the impasse and continue to work with Sentech on that matter.”
