Cross-examination in Bozwana case postponed to Wednesday

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The cross-examination of the relative of slain North West businessman Wandile Bozwana has been postponed until Wednesday in the Pretoria High Court. This is after counsel for two of the four accused was booked off.

The deceased’s brother Benedict Bozwana’s victim impact evidence was also adjourned on Monday as the legal representatives for two of the accused were not ready to cross-examine him.

The businessman was gunned down in Grasfontein, east of Pretoria, in October 2015. His colleague Mpho Baloyi sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

Vusi Mathibela, Sipho Hudla, Robert Mutapa, and Bonginkosi Khumalo were convicted of the murder in June last year. They have been remanded in custody.

A friend of the Bozwana family, Themba Gwabeni, was in court.

He says, “Well, we have to be very patient. Seven years has been very long. So right now the fact that we were here yesterday and today we received a postponement to tomorrow because of the ill health of the representative of accused number 1 and 2, gives us hope. We’re told that she called and said that tomorrow she’ll be fine. We hope that she will be able to come tomorrow. We are looking forward to the judgment, and the sentencing because these guys have been found guilty. We are looking forward to closure.”
