Ten churches found operating illegally in Yeoville, Johannesburg have been shut down.

Johannesburg Metro Police officers raided about twenty churches in Yeoville following numerous complaints of extremely loud music, overcrowding of pavements and obstruction to the roads.

Metro police spokesperson Wayne Minnaar warns places of worship that fail to comply with the city’s by-laws that they’ll face serious consequences.

Minaar says, “Ten of the churches were found to be operating illegally and approximately R500 000 worth of sound equipment were impounded. We want to urge places of worship to comply with by-law regulations.”
