Cape Town City scored a 1-0 win over Costa do Sol in a CAF Confederation Cup first round, first-leg match at the Estadio do Zimpeto just outside of Maputo on Wednesday night.

With several first team regulars rested or injured, there were starts for Shane Roberts, Zukile Kewuti, Vincent Kobola and Nana Akosah-Bempah, and playing away from home, it was a great result for Benni McCarthy’s men.

After a goal-less first half in Mozambique, Sibusiso Masina popped up in the 65th minute with a well-taken effort which proved to be the match-winner.

City, who had beaten Swaziland outfit Young Buffaloes 2-0 on aggregate in the preliminary round, will be confident of advancing to the next stage with a victory in the return game in Cape Town on Friday March 16.
