DA leader Mmusi Maimane says the ANC government has failed to secure the country’s borders. Maimane was speaking during the party’s Kasi to Kasi tour in Ladybrand in the Free State. He blamed the high crime rate on government’s failure to address illegal immigration challenges.
The DA is the only party willing to take on this illegal immigration issue.

Maimane had first-hand experience of challenges at Ficksburg Border gate. He says corruption and inefficiency at border gates contributes to illegal immigration. He insists staff shortages and lack of resources at the South African Defence Force are some of the key challenges crippling the security at Ports of Entry.
“We need to ensure there is secure border control in all our ports of entry. South Africa needs to capacitate borders and have better diplomatic ties to make sure there is peace in those countries.”
“The ANC government has failed in terms of border control in South Africa.
The Ficksburg border is 50% under-staffed.
People are coming in and out of South Africa with ease because our borders are porous.” – @MmusiMaimane #SecureOurBorders pic.twitter.com/18zw48W0hn

Maimane also took his party’s election campaign to the Matsopa Municipality in Ladybrand. The area has experienced violent service delivery protests. Residents say that they need jobs.
“We need jobs. Our youth are not working and some are graduates.”
“There is lack of services, we want houses and our roads are in bad shape. We have been staying in shacks.”
The DA used its Kasi-to-Kasi tour to intensify the campaign for votes ahead of the 8th May polls.
