Economic Freedom Fighter (EFF) leader Julius Malema has warned that political killings in KwaZulu-Natal could spill to other provinces.

The rise in political killings has been attributed to factionalism in the African National Congress (ANC).

The latest killings of an ANC activist in Pietermaritzburg, Musawenkosi Mchunu and Professor at the University of Zululand, Professor Gregory Kamwendo, sparked renewed fears of possible unrest in the province.

On Monday, Ministers from the security cluster, including the Police’s Bheki Cele, met with police heads and the team investigating the murders. Malema says the escalation of the killings in the province is a source of serious concern.

“We are more worried because they are are called KZN killings – and they are ANC killings.  ANC people are killing each other for power. Once a person is a whistleblower against corruption, you have to kill that person.  Because once they are done with killing each other, they will go outside who disagrees with them and the opposition will be the first victims of such assassination.”
