The Democratic Alliance(DA) says it’s already seeking legal advice on how to compel former President Jacob Zuma to appear before the Zondo Commission of Inquiry into State Capture, should he refuse to willingly do so.

The party says it was under his watch that South Africa slid from state capture to state collapse. Therefore it’s important that South Africans hear from him.

Party Chief whip, John Steenhuisen, says the country’s buckled under a culture of a general lack of accountability for decades.

They want Zuma to be among those held accountable for all the state capture shenanigans that’s led to the country losing billions through corrupt and illegal activities.

“We’re certainly going to make sure that he doesn’t do what he has been doing on other matters such as the spy tapes matter and simply dragging things out for decades to avoid accountability. One of my major disappointments in this process is that despite repeated attempts and letters to the speaker they still failed to subpoena Mr Duduzane Zuma to parliament and obviously that was a political decision that was made. Because if you look at some of the subpoenas that have been issued, in this last week, there doesn’t seem to be a reluctance to issue subpoenas. But I think it’s determined on who actually is the person being asked to be subpoenaed,”  says DA Chief Whip, John Steenhuisen.
