The KwaZulu-Natal Education Department says a case of rape has been opened against a teacher at Tongaat Secondary School, north of Durban.
The teacher, who cannot be named, has also been suspended. He had also allegedly exchanged sexual content with the learner.
Provincial Education spokesperson Muzi Mahlambi says, “We can confirm that we had suspended the Tongaat Secondary School educator who was alleged to have exchanged pornographic messages with a learner. We have since learnt that he further raped a child which is a matter that the police are dealing with. There is going to be an internal process again, as the Department of Education that we will put him through so that we can deal with him in a disciplinary.”
