Sasco laments ANC failures

Reading Time: < 1 minute

National Executive Committee (NEC) member Zamile Gwala says that ANC failures reflect badly on South African Students’ Congress (Sasco) hence they are losing huge support in some of the country’s tertiary institutions including the University of Fort Hare, UCT and Wits.

This comes as Sasco is hosting its 20th bi-annual elective national conference which kicked off in Soweto on Monday.

The main purpose of the congress, which ends on Friday, is to elect new leadership and focus on the renewal of the organisation’s mandate.

Gwala says losing support has taught them how to look back and reflect on how they have gone wrong and how they can correct those mistakes.

“Sasco is associated with the ANC but is not a student desk of the ANC. We believe in the maxes and learnism, we use those as our tools of analysis which means that we have a relationship with the ANC. When it comes to issues of NSFAS, we as Sasco don’t handle NSFAS, the ANC does and how the government of the ANC handle this issue reflects back on us and that is how we sometimes lose.”
