Zwelithini has allowed political parties to use him: Analyst

Political analyst, Mcebisi Ndletyana says it’s a shame that the King of AmaZulu Goodwill Zwelithini has yet again made offensive remarks which have the potential to incite violence.

Addressing a land imbizo he hosted in Ulundi in the north of the KwaZulu-Natal on Wednesday, the King defended traditional leaderships’ right to control land under his Ingonyama Trust.

He also said he, and the AmaZulu, would fight to maintain the status quo as land expropriation without compensations remains in spotlight.

Ndletyana has reiterated that Zwelithini has allowed political parties to use him.

“Zwelithini has been a monarch for a while,  and what he said… he was not saying for the first time. He’s been saying it… He said that when he was supporting Mangosuthu Buthelezi, to validate IFP claims for Zulu interests – at the time he was under the sway of Gatsha Buthelezi. Buthelezi controls the Provincial legislature, which maintained the household of the King. My experience and everyone else is that the King follows the money,” says Ndletyana.
