Zuma’s future in the hands of Top 6

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Top African National Congress (ANC) officials are expected to meet with President Jacob Zuma this weekend as pressure on him grows to step down.

The ANC’s Top Six were mandated by the party’s conference in December to handle transition in the party.

Meanwhile, a motion of no confidence by opposition parties against Zuma is to be tabled in the National Assembly on February 22.

Opposition parties also say they will meet with Speaker Baleka Mbete on Tuesday next week to discuss this year’s State of the Nation address.

United Democratic Movement (UDM) leader Bantu Holomisa says opposition parties are willing to listen to anyone but President Jacob Zuma come next Thursday.

“There are more voices now which are calling for Zuma not to address us. A letter was sent to the Speaker and the Chairperson of the NCOP to say that on or before Monday they must please assist us. Fortunately, we have a meeting with the speaker on Tuesday. We hope by that time they would have answered us as to our request.”
