“Zuma should focus on racism”

The Ahmed Kathrada Foundation says racism is a national priority and must be one of the areas President Jacob Zuma focuses on in his State of the Nation Address on Thursday.

“It’s is part of the unresolved issues of South Africa that we cannot continue to ignore or hope that it will go away on its own,” says the foundation’s director, Neeshan Balton. The foundation launched the Anti-Racism Network South Africa in December, which aims to help fight racism in the country.

Balton says both the public and private sector must work together. He says they would like to hear the President giving clear direction how racism could be dealt with in the country.

Providing civil servants with antiracism training is just one of the practical measures Bolton says he hopes President Zuma will put his weight behind in an effort to curb racism.
