Zuma recall should be seen as ANC problem: Azapo

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The Azanian People’s Organisation – Azapo says the recall of President Jacob Zuma should be seen as an ANC problem. On Tuesday the ANC NEC resolved to recall President Zuma.

But Azapo President Strike Thokoana says this is proof that the ANC has failed as a self-proclaimed leader of society.

He says the time has come for the people of South Africa to vote the ANC out of power.

Questions still remain about President Zuma’s future despite the ANC National Executive’s marathon 13-hour meeting on Monday to resolve the issue. While a briefing in Johannesburg Tuesday afternoon on the outcome of the meeting, reported the decision to recall him – little light has been shed on the reasons for the move, time frames for his stepping down and what will happen should he remain defiant.

Like his predecessor Thabo Mbeki, the ANC National Executive Committee has finally resolved to recall Zuma as head of state.

Party Secretary General Ace Magashule says the reason behind their decision is the uncertainty and anxiety that have engulfed the country over the past few days.

Magashule says the president wanted to prolong his stay in office, citing his continuing responsibilities in key international institutions such as SADC and Brics.
