Reading Time: < 1 minute

Former President, Jacob Zuma has described Limpopo Agriculture MEC, Joyce Mashamba, as a disciplined communist and cadre who was not involved in controversies within government.

He was speaking at Mashamba’s funeral service at Mudavula Stadium, in Malamulele.

The 67 year old died last week after succumbing to a kidney-related illness.

Mashamba and her husband, George served under Zuma’s command in Swaziland, underground as MK operatives.

Zuma says Joyce Mashamba was a respected member of the ANC, SACP and MK operative.

“Joyce, when she came out of prison, she was more determined, perhaps than when she went in. Came out and continued work and became an outstanding example of the ANC women. She understood the ANC and was disciplined, even when she worked in government, focused, quiet and doing her job.”
