President Jacob Zuma says he is happy that he has left the African National Congress (ANC) in the hands of capable leaders.

Zuma was speaking at a Christmas celebration for the elderly in Chatsworth south of Durban, a few days after he was replaced by Cyril Ramaphosa as ANC president after serving two terms.

“I would like to thank our senior citizens who we are celebrating today, our grandmother and grandfathers, I would like to thank you for always honouring your special occasion. I am so happy today as much I am still busy, but I am happy that I am wrapping up some of my commitments I made as a President of the ANC. However, I left the party in the capable hands of the new leadership who will take our party forward.”

Meanwhile, the elderly folk say they were happy to spend Christmas Eve with the country’s President.

“We would like the President to always remember us as the senior citizens to also increase our pension.  We are also thankful of the new ANC President. We always pray for our country and also that our children find any form of employment because so many of them are at home and are unemployed. We are happy to have the President with us on the eve of Christmas.”
