Zinedine Zidane celebrates La Liga win

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Real Madrid Coach Zinedine Zidane said his side’s La Liga title win on Thursday tasted sweeter than any of the three Champions League crowns he has led them to.

Real clinched their 34th league title with a 2-1 victory over Villarreal after winning all 10 matches since the season returned following a three-month break due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, the team will not be doing their usual open top bus parade in Madrid in order to prevent the risk of spreading the coronavirus.

Zinedine Zidane says, “I feel really happy. With everything I have, because the first (time I won as a player with Real Madrid) was phenomenal, but this one has a special flavour. As you said, we had two months at home and then we came back and we trained differently and we were able to win La Liga, which for me, the Spanish La Liga is the toughest to win. And I think we did it with a lot of success. But all of us, at the end of the day, because teams are based on a lot of sacrifices. And inside, I don’t know what to do, but I’m very, very, very happy.”

In Italy’s Serie A, Torino made two changes from the side that lost to Inter Milan.

They took on Genoa in a relegation clash at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torinolast night.

Torino easily dispatched of the visitors with a three nil score line.

Inter Milan who recently beat Torino, were up against bottom-of-the-log SPAL the Paolo Mazza Stadium on Thursday night.

It was a crucial match for second place Inter to keep the pressure on Juventus who are six points at the top of the log.
And they did just that, walloping their hosts four-nil.

Meanwhile, Leicester City beat Sheffield United two-nil at the Power Kingdom Stadium.

The win lifts Leicester to fourth on the log with 62 points while Sheffield are eighth with 54 points.

And Everton and Aston Villa shared the spoils one-all in another English Premiership match played at Goodison Park.
Theo Walcott’s late equaliser meant Aston Villa dropped crucial points in their bid to avoid relegation.
