Zindziswa praises her mother’s strength

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Zindziswa Mandela, the youngest daughter of the late struggle icon Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, says her mother gained respect because of her strength and sense of self-value.

The 81 year-old, who was affectionately called the mother of the nation, died earlier on Monday at Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg.

She had been in and out of hospital since the start of the year.

Zindzi Mandela elaborates, “What comes from this experience is tremendous respect that I have for her and her strength as a woman. She was able to put a smile on her face and always hold her head up high. We never saw her fall apart, despite the fact that there was evidence she was falling apart.”

Meanwhile,  ANC veteran Pallo Jordan says Madikizela-Mandela has left a void in the political arena of the country.

“I think it’s a shame that she fell ill at the time that she did because from what she said, she was hoping to play a big role in this renewal of the ANC.”
