Zimbabwe put one foot in the semis of the women’s COSAFA Cup

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Zimbabwe put one foot in the semi-final round of the 2019 Women’s COSAFA Cup with a 4-0 win over Mozambique at Wolfson stadium on Friday.

Majory Nyaumwe opened and closed the scoring for the Mighty Warriors in the eighth and 67th minutes.

Emmaculate Msipa netted the second goal in the 19th minute while Rudo Neshamba converted a penalty two minutes from half time.

Zimbabwe coach Sithethelelwe Sibanda says the result is not a true reflection of the game as Mozambique was tough.

Zimbabwe command group C with six points from two matches followed by eSwatini with three points from one encounter.

Angola are third on the table without a point from one game, while Mozambique are at the bottom pointless after playing a full complement of matches.

Sibanda does not want to think about the semis as yet saying eSwatini will be a challenge in their final group fixture.

A second successive defeat in the group means Mozambique are technically out of the competition, though they still have a fixture to honour.

Coach Miguel Macapa with the help of a translator says they take some hard lessons from their participation this year. – Report by Lethabo Kganyago
