Zimbabwe awaits presidential results

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Zimbabwe is on edge as it awaits the results of its presidential election, following a violent end to the parliamentary poll.

Soldiers fired on protesting opposition supporters in Harare on Wednesday and three people were killed.

The protests began after official results showed that the ruling ZANU-PF party had easily won a majority in the parliamentary ballot, strengthening President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s prospects of holding onto power in the key presidential race.

MDC supporters, who say their leader Nelson Chamisa won the vote, burnt tyres and pulled down street signs.

SABC News’s Chriselda Lewis gives the latest update from Harare this Thursday morning.
