Zille’s office to seek judicial review regarding PP’s findings

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The office of Western Cape Premier Helen Zille says it will likely seek a judicial review on the findings made by Public Protector Advocate Busisiwe Mkhwebane about her colonialism tweets.

Mkhwebane has found Zille failed to act in good faith and in the best interest of good governance when she posted her colonialism tweet.

Last year, Zille tweeted that colonialism wasn’t all negative. She later apologised, saying the comments were not a defence of colonialism.

Zille’s office said in a statement, the Premier has not received the actual report, outlining the reasons for the finding. Zille has already advised the Public Protector that, in her view, such a finding would be unlawful and irrational.

As part of the remedial action, Mkhwebane has ordered the Western Cape legislature to take action against Zille within 30 days.
