Zikalala leads peace walk in Phoenix

KwaZulu-Natal Premier Sihle Zikalala is leading a delegation of local MEC, representatives of community organisations and religious groups on a peace walk in Phoenix north of Durban.

The walk started a short while ago from the Rydavale sport grounds and will end at the Bambayi grounds.

Residents of Phoenix and surrounding townships have been working on improving their relations following the deaths of more than 29 people during the July unrest.

The unrests saw racial tensions flare up in the midst of looting and violence in the area.

In August, the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) said social cohesion initiatives have so far yielded positive results at Phoenix, Bambayi and surrounding areas in the north of Durban.
